Flying with toddlers and babies can be stress provoking. I refused to fly with Olivia until she was a year old and then it was rare and very short flights. The thought of being stuck on a plane, in a tiny seat with an active toddler who is bored or can’t pop their ears is something that makes me sweat with fear.

Planning ahead is key and bringing more than just the iPad loaded with movies and apps is sometimes necessary. I know from experience that sometimes the iPad isn’t enough to keep kids occupied on short or long flights. A trip to the Dollar General, an Amazon purchase and a carry on bag loaded with a few of these items will help keep your sanity in check.

Here are some of the awesome products we use or have tried to make mom and dad happy when flying with toddlers and babies.

Mini Jenga

I found ours at the Dollar General but you can also buy the original on Amazon. This kept Olivia busy for about 20 minutes. I thought we would play family Jenga but she preferred to use them as blocks and self-play.

Melissa & Doug Paint With Water

I found this in a gift store in San Diego and bought it for the plane ride home. We used a water bottle lid for her to clean her brush and the cup holder made a good place to store it. You can also find these on Amazon.
